2017 ACGA v Cypriots Match
The committee, having sent out a call to the members got an excellent response and we managed to field a team of 12 with 3 reserves if we needed any last minute backup.
We were geared up to play a pairs match, but the Cypriots wanted to play singles, and as it was their call we went along with that decision.
The ACGA ladies have stepped up to the plate this year. And once again, that was the case in the form of Cora Edwards who is our lowest lady handicap player. Cora played some excellent golf, which began with a birdie on the first. Unfortunately, she came up against an opponent who was a member of Essendon and an excellent putter and reader of the greens. This proved to be the difference in their match up, and after battling hard she finally went down 2&1.
The outstanding performances from the men were Colin Parson, Malcolm O'Garro and Frank Skinner (no not Baptiste :-) ), who won their matches quite comfortably. Richard (Course Record) Payne managed a half after discovering a new toy, (see video on members forum) with his opponent having to birdie the last 2 holes to tie the match.
That is where the good news from an ACGA point of view ended I'm afraid, as we went down 3 1/2 to 8 1/2, but the usual banter and frivolity was in evidence as per usual in this annual event.
The committee would like to thank all the members for their support once more and there is a 4 ball voucher from Essendon which we will raffle on Captain's Day, with the proceeds going to our chosen charity Prostate Cancer UK.
