Regular Season

Order of Merit Competition

The regular ACGA Season runs from April to October and consists of one event a month, usually on the 1st Friday of the month. Previously, two of the events (April and September) were held over weekends (two rounds) and would take place at various venues such as:

• Meon Valley Golf Resort/Hotel - Hampshire

• The Warwickshire Golf Club

• Vale of Glamorgan - Wales

• Forest of Arden - Warwickshire

• Belton Woods - Northants

The weekend events have ceased since the occurrence of Covid, but may well return over the next couple of years.

All competitions, nicknamed “Majors” are stapleford points based off of full handicaps (CONGU-Based system using society handicap rules). Trophies are awarded for the top four positions plus awards for nearest the pin on one or more par 3’s.

After the seven events have taken place from April - October, the best five event scores for each member count towards the overall order of merit (OOM), with the season’s OOM Champion announced at the season ending Captain’s Day Major.

Singles Competition

Throughout the season, there is also a Members singles competition. This commences with a qualifier event (strokeplay) in April, followed by Singles matches culminating in a final, usually held in September. Members are free to agree the venue for the individual matches, we only stipulate that each round is completed by a specific date so that we are in a position to hold the final before Captains Day at the beginning of October.

Social events

Members frequently meet up through out the year and hold their own social events at their own member courses or other favoured venues. We have also on occasion, organised official Majors overseas eg Portugal in Sept 2018 or trips to to participate in competitions abroad eg The Annual Sir Garry Sobers Invitational held in Barbados in April/May each year. We expect these trips to resume and increase in frequency over the next couple of years…
