2019 Major 2 - Aspley Guise and Woburn

Our 2nd Major for 2019 was scheduled to be played at Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands on 10th May which we last visited back in 2010 according to our records.

This proved to be a challenging date because most of our regulars were away on golf trips abroad but true to form the committee and those of us who were available rolled up our sleeves and got on with the job in hand.

Mainly our esteemed Treasurer Sophia Lodge, who coordinated things from the ground so to speak supported by the Secretary, Captain and Vice Captain, which highlighted what being on the committee is all about -  to be supportive and willing to get things done no matter what obstacles are put in our way.

These extra responsibilities seems to have suited our Treasurer because she was in the hunt to take the top prize until she got derailed in a deep bunker on the 8th which stalled her progress, but recovered to finish a creditable 3rd overall playing off 19.

The ACGA ladies in attendance held their own with Lynette beating Big Frank Baptiste into 4th place on countback with 30 points off 24 handicap and Ingrid Clarke scoring a credible 27 off 25 handicap pushing Andy Ferdinand into the drinks position in their group - payback for Belton Woods me thinks....

On the day we welcomed two guests - Cedi Frederick playing off 22 who was marshalled by Phil on the day as to what playing with the ACGA is all about. The other guest, Louis Harrison playing off scratch was paired with Boom Boom Goddard and the Big OG ,who reported back that Louis has game and will be one to watch going forward.

These two guests came courtesy of Big Frank Baptiste who having returned from the Sir Garry Sobers tournament in Barbados drove the green on the 1st hole and fired 19 points on the front nine,  but then ran out of gas on the back nine.

Raphael Roberts was our champion on the day with 36 points playing off 15 (yes you heard it right FIFTEEN) closely followed in 2nd place by Course Record himself Richard Payne with 35 points playing off 5.

The spirit of the day was emphasized by our Captain Stuart Austrie leaving a funeral to drive up to Aspley Guise to deliver and present the prizes,. Thanks goes to all the ACGA members who supported this event and to the Committee members involved for going that extra mile to make sure that the event was a success.
