2017 Major 5 Knole Park GC

Major 5 - Knole Park 4th August

When the 2017 ACGA major roster was presented and the name of Knole Park was seen on it, most of the members enquired, “where is it?” and “is it any good?” Well the answers to those two questions are; it’s in Kent and yes it’s very good.

Knole Park golf club is a challenging parkland golf course situated within 1000 acres of countryside in Seven Oaks in Kent, set in rolling hills with stunning views across the Kent countryside and that landscape and golf course is frequented by large herds of Deer. But the course is not only special in its presentation, it is also boasts a very welcoming management, staff and membership.

The ACGA arrived at this beautiful golf course at around 8:30am on Friday 4th August and immediately filled the air with our usual banter and laughter some of which was engaged with the members and staff at the club. As usual everyone arrived with the expectation of playing their best golf, but the word was out that a certain member had shown impressive form leading up to the event so the sweepstake was heavily invested in his favour, particularly with odds of 16/1.

This was a strokeplay event played over 18 holes and the first group commenced play at 10am, this group had great significance to our association because it was comprised soley of lady members, two of whom will be competing later this year in the ACGA singles final. Women power is real.

We must also remember that Rory Bennett (junior golfer) joined us and showed us that he is not only a very capable and skilled golfer with a handicap of 5, but also a pleasure to play a round of golf with and testimony to the good parenting he receives.

As the scores came in there was a familiar feel to the names of the high achievers with Tye Carter and Colin Parson showing their class and capabilities by each posting scores of net 69, however as indicated in the earlier part of this report, we were all left to admire Terry Morris’ winning score of net 68, the rumours that preceded this event proved to be true with Terry putting in extra practice, taking lessons and the resultant effect being that he has won the prize of champion golfer for the day. Colin Parson and Terry Morris won the two nearest the pin prizes.

Yet again this was an excellent day to be an ACGA member, the fun, comradery and competitive spirit is seldom experienced elsewhere, special thanks must go to the Knole Park management for receiving us so well, I think it’s fair to say we will be back.

The next event is a weekend away at Bowood golf resort and spa, this event is not only a major but is also the 2017 champion of Champion’s event.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September at Bowood
