2013 Major 2 Farleigh GC

In recent times we have welcomed many a new face to join our ranks in search of that perfect round of golf. It's fair to say that some of those new members have brought their "A" game and secured that inaugural major win. As the AGCA members descended on the home club of our secretary Ernie Owusu (complete with latest pro-shop attire) to once again do battle, the question on everyone's lips "would course knowledge prevail"?

Farleigh is well known to a number of our established members, none more so than Sam aka "The Sheriff" Hing. Proudly leading the first group and donning his Sheriffs hat complete with badge, he split the fairway and announced "today I am taking you all to jail"!. I reminded Sam that he was not the only Farleigh member present who had their  name carved in the clubhouse role of honour. As the final groups stepped purposefully down the fairway from the 1st Tee, the comment of the day surely has to go to Gary Cameron...and I quote "I have played a lot of golf, but never have I witnessed a  2 off the tee"........for those of you who were there....I am sure you will agree....a classic moment in golf and one to converse over at the bar.!

The morning scoring would prove to be extremely fruitful for a majority of the players, in fact I am struggling to recall a 1st round where the mid field was so tightly packed. Pick of the morning scores were :- current CofC champ Gary Cameron (39), Roger Greenidge, Clyde Murray, Tunde Adeshokan, Chris Thomas (38) and Ernie Owusu, Stuart Austrie, (37). There were a host of others in the mid-thirties also worthy of note, one of our guests Farleigh's Lady Captain Jenny Walker and our very own Captain Jackie Harbour, (36). It has to be said everything was shaping up nicely for an interesting afternoon round.

With a quick lunch and turn-a-round, groups made their way to the 1st Tee for the afternoon round. It seems that after suffering at the hands of nature at the 1st major, the golfing gods had at least seen fit to make the day an entirely a dry one.

When the 1st group completed round 2 the best any of them could post was a lowly 63 by "The Sheriff".  The scores continued to improve and as debate stirred in the clubhouse, it transpired that the nearest the pin on the testy little par 3 would go to Roger Greenidge. A cleverly positioned longest drive on the 18th would mean that only Mark Cato, would summon enough energy to find some distance for the winning drive.

The morning scores were very close and in true ACGA style the final scores were even closer. It required count a back to reach the final placing for the top 5 positions. Mike Woodstock beat Lee Herbert to finish 5th (71), Clyde Murray beat Roger Greenidge to finish 3rd (75) and it would be yet another debutante Wayne Cudjoe who narrowly beat Tunde Adeshokan (76) to secure his 1st major. Congratulations to all of you, in particular Wayne scoring a creditable 42 points on his afternoon round to secure victory.

Once again the "blob-o-meter" fund increased substantially with all sums designated to the Captains charities of choice Prostate Cancer Research & Sickle Cell.

In the bar...the debate continued unabated, the primary question being asked by some "when will I win a major"........login to the members area to checkout the Results, Latest Order of Merit Standings and Event Gallery.

Next stop Canons Brook...........a major worth winning if ever there was one.…..
