2009 ACGA v Titans GS Match

Titans vs. ACGA

For the BrisLon Trophy

ACGA are the current holders of the trophy. This year the Titans named the venue where the battle would take place, over two days and to different arenas. The Park and the Players golf clubs are the venues for 2009. Pair’s better ball at The Park on the Saturday and Singles at The Players on the Sunday.

The ACGA could only pull together seven players who’s partners would let them out on there own for yet another weekend away. What with Dean’s winter pairs entering its final stages, Cambridge weekender just a couple of weeks away and the Barbados getting ever closer. Anyway 7 will do, it’s only the Titans......please

The Teams

Titans: Captain Tennis, Norman, Fez, Craig, Chever, Dunston, Ian, Brian, Chris and Andy Mac

ACGA: Captain Henry, Ossie, Malcolm, Steve, Cornelius, Greg and Leon Brown

Saturday

Saturday, as we are one player short sent Malcolm O out on his own to do battle against the Fez & Norman show. By the time Malcolm had got the 18th he had to play through the four seasons. Autumn, winter, summer, spring and some hailstones just for good message. Malcolm limped home. 1up Titans

The weather was not going to have any impact on the pairing of CJ & Leon who brought the match back to All Square.

CJ completing the course Level Par Gross and in case there was any doubt about what sort of form he was in an Eagle 2 on the 18th....hello Bristol and welcome Craig & Chever.

Next up was Ossie & Steve. Business as usual here, although a good fight was put up Dunston & Tennis but not good enough to stop this pair who clicked from the off. 1up ACGA

Can the paring of Greg & Henry make it 2up to the ACGA? No chance, two bad ones will always loose to two very good ones, barking all the home to the club 7&6 Well played Ian & Brian

Day One - ALL Square

Sunday

Tennis brings in the big guns on day 2. Chris, a member at the Players club (Par for this course is 72) and the main man Andy Mac. ACGA want to make a statement early so out go the inform players from yesterday.

Singles is the format for the day Ossie will go out first guns blazing playing Ian. Now Ian is fast becoming a pain in the ACGA backside. One of only two players to score maximum points over the two days 1up Titans.

CJ coming off a 4 over gross would take sum beating. Wrong Chris (player’s member) takes care of CJ. 2upTitans.

Come on Tiger we need you. Steve is the other player to score maximum points and thankfully gets the ACGA a point on the board with a (78 gross) Craig nil points. 2 - 1 Titans.

Leon is beaten by I’ve got a speech Tennis “I told you” Russell 3-1 Titans. Greg is playing the inform Brian. Brian who? 3-2 Titans

Malcolm and Andy go blow for blow but it’s Andy that’s left standing 4-2 Titans.

With only one match remaining the Titans have won. Henry squares with Dunston on the 18th I almost never got back to the club house, twice I nearly jumped in the river. At the twelfth hole I was 3 over gross and...........3 down to Dunston. Coming up the 18th I’m 7 over Gross and still 1 down to what’s his name. He’s in the bunker after 2 and all I’m thinking, if he makes another up and down I’m going to rap my hole golf bag around his head....I’m serious any how he makes that putt me and him are rolling on the 18th I don’t care ACGA captain.

Our new BrisLon Champions for the next 2 years are the Titans. The sprit in which the two days have been played is testament to fantastic partnership we have built up over the years. Look after the cup we are coming to win it back. Thank you all for another great weekend.
